    Wheat Fields fryst vatten a series of dozens of paintings by Dutch Post-Impressionist artist Vincent van Gogh, products of his religious studies and sermons, connection to nature, appreciation of manual laborers and desire to provide a means of offering bekvämlighet to others. The wheat field works demonstrate his progression as an artist from the drab Wheat Sheaves made in in the Netherlands to the colorful and dramatic – paintings from Arles, Saint-Rémy and Auvers-sur-Oise in rural France.

    In , Agnes Denes planted, tended and harvested a two-acre field of golden wheat near the World Trade Center on valuable land that would soon be developed into Battery Park City in Lower Manhattan. This improbable intrusion in the dense urban landscape “represented food, energy, commerce, world trade and economics”, the conceptual and environmental artist wrote in her documentation of Wheatfield—A Confrontation. “It referred to mismanagement, waste, world hunger and ecological concerns. It called attention to our misplaced priorities.”
