Nandita Das (born 7 November 1969) is an Indian actress and director. She has acted in over 40 feature films in ten different languages. Das appeared in the films Fire (1996), Earth (1998), Bawandar (2000), Kannathil Muthamittal (2002), Azhagi (2002),Kamli (2006), and Before The Rains (2007). Her directorial debut Firaaq (2008), premiered at the Toronto Film Festival and travelled to more than 50 festivals, winning more than 20 awards. H

Maria studies in the American Film Institute (AFI) in Los Angeles. Her short film KILL ME LATER wins the First Prize in the Oberhausen bio Festival and the Panavisión Grant in the Houston Festival. In 1999 she directs her first rulle debut LLUVIA EN LOS ZAPATOS/IF ONLY/ TWICE UPON A YESTEDAY. With Lena Headey, Douglas Henshall and Penelope Cruz.-The film wins Best Screenplay Montreal bio Festival, Audience Award Sitges Film Festival and Seattle Woman rulle Festival, Nominated Goya 1999 for Best Director.
