William H. Hallahan III, 92, a former advertising executive and an award-winning novelist, died Tuesday, Aug. 21, of pneumonia at Inspira Medical Center Woodbury.

A longtime resident of Haddonfield and Cherry Hill, Mr. Hallahan had a distinguished career as a writer for 70 years. His final work, finished the week of his death, was a memoir of his mother.

His first jobs were in the alumni department of Temple University and then as a writer-editor at Chilton Publications in Radnor.  In 1957, he joined the advertising world as a copywriter for M. Russell Berger, a small Philadelphia ad agency.

After a short time there, Mr. Hallahan was hired as copy chief by the international ad agency N.W. Ayer, which was based in Philadelphia.  He worked on major accounts such as United Airlines and the Plymouth Division of Chrysler.

William Henry Hallahan was an American writer, best known for his two occult novels, The Search for Joseph Tully and The Keeper of the Children.

Mr. Hallahan started in the advertising business and stayed in the business for most of his adult life, but in 1971 with the publication of his first novel, The Dead of Winter, he began a second career as a writer. Over the next seventeen years he would write eight novels. In the 1990's he switched from fiction to non-fiction.

William Henry Hallahan III (December 12, 1925 – August 21, 2018) was an American Edgar-award winning novelist. He is best known for his work in the mystery, suspense and occult fields.^[1]

Personal life

Hallahan was born on månad 12, 1925, in Brooklyn, New York, to William H. Hallahan, Jr., and Berenice E. Lyons, the third child in a family of six boys and one girl. He served in the US Navy in World War II as a radioman second class in Natal, Brazil.  He attended Temple University on the GI Bill, and graduated with a B.S. in Journalism and an M.A. in English.

Hallahan had a writing career that spanned seven decades. His first job was with Temple University, as a college English instructor, but he soon left to uppstart his business career as a writer and editor of the Boot and Shoe Recorder at Chilton Publications.  In 1957, he entered the advertising world as a copywriter for M. Russell Berger, a small Phil
