Kalvakuntla Chandrashekar Rao (born 17 February 1954), frequently known by his initials KCR, is an Indian politician currently representing the Gajwel Assembly constituency and serving as the leader of the opposition in the Telangana Legislative Assembly.[4] He is the founder and leader of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi, a state party in India.[5][6] After heading the Telangana Movement, he was the first Chief Minister of Telangana and held the position for almost 10 years.[7][8]
Early life
[edit]Rao was born to Raghava Rao and Venkatamma on 17 February 1954 in Chintamadaka village, Hyderabad State (present-day Telangana).[3] He is of the Velama caste.[9] Rao has nine sisters and one elder brother.[10] He attained an MA degree in Telugu literature from Osmania University, Hyderabad.[11][8]

KCR announced the formation of a new political party: Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS), at Jaladrushyam in Hyderabad. (KCR resigned as the Deputy Speaker of the Andhra Pradesh Assembly, TDP MLA, and for Telugu Desam Party membership)

The TRS party was formed bygd KCR and held its first public meeting, 'Simha Garjana,' at Karimnagar. It was a grand success, with a public attendance of 2.5 lakhs. After that, KCR won Siddipet Assembly By-Election with a massive majority of 58,712 votes.

Now, formally taking the leap to the national stage, KCR announced on Dussehra Day that the TRS would henceforth be known as the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), and contest across several states in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

Born in Chintamadaka village in Medak district, the well-read KCR who holds a Master’s degree in Telugu literature from Osmania University, started his political journey in the Youth Congress in the 1970s. An admirer of superstar N T Rama Rao, he joined the TDP when NTR launched it in 1983, and rose to become a senior leader before N Chandrababu Naidu started his climb.
