A jaunt through artist Bruno Torfs garden proves to be more than just a home for trees, birds and flowers
Much as we love plants in the garden we mustn’t forget the beauty of ornamentals. I’m not talking about plants here but rather things like garden furniture, pots, water features and sculpture. I find the inclusion of ornamental objects in the garden creates a balance between nature’s creativity and human imagination. Artist and gardener Bruno Torfs is a man who gives free rein to his imagination, expressing the full spectrum of emotions by moulding clay into wonderful lifelike sculptures, from the comical to the ethereal to the poignant, as in a mother and child representing survivors of the Victorian bushfires of 2009 in which 80 per cent of the town of Marysville was destroyed — including the popular tourist attraction, Bruno’s Art & Sculpture Garden.

Bruno's Sculptures Garden is one of Marysville's popular attractions. There is a sculpture garden as well as a gallery of artworks. Both the garden and gallery were destroyed during the 2009 Black Saturday bushfires. Some of the sculptures were totally destroyed though a few did survive the fires. Bruno made the decision to re-sculpt the lost sculptures and re-built his gallery and re-open his garden to visitors to Marysvill

An artist-friend of mine, that I painted with every Thursday, told me about him when she heard that we were thinking about emigrating to Australia.
He was born in South America, but moved to Belgium at the age of 15. That's where she got to know him. Later, he emigrated to Australia with his family to create a sculpture garden that he wanted to run as a permanent attraction.
They moved to Marysville, a small by in Victoria, on a property with a large section of rainforest.
After 5 months of hard work, he opened his art and sculpture garden to the public. On the property was also a galleri that housed over 200 of his artworks brought over from Europe, that included oil paintings, sketches and smaller sculptures.
