Isaac Wolfson
Scottish businessman and philanthropist (–)
Sir Isaac Wolfson, 1st BaronetFRS[1] (; 17 September – 20 June ) was a Scottish businessman and philanthropist. He was managing director of Great Universal Stores (G.U.S. or Gussies) – and chairman – He established the Wolfson Foundation to distribute most of his fortune to good causes. Great Universal Stores was a mail order business. He joined the company as a merchandising controller in , becoming joint managing director in the same year. The company was in trouble when he joined but he turned it round and made it into a very strong business and the principal source of his wealth. He also had other successful business ventures. He was succeeded by his son Leonard Wolfson.[2]

ISAAC BENJAMIN WOLF BEN ELIEZER LIPMAN (d. before ), German rabbi. Isaac's father, eliezer, was called Goettingen, a name taken from the city of that name in Germany. Isaac studied under Isaac b. Abraham, av bet din of Vilna and Posen. He served as rabbi of Landsberg an der Warthe. From he was rabbi of Slutsk and then of Olyka. While still young, he wrote Naḥalat Binyamin, a work in four parts; only the first part was published (Amsterdam, ). The book is a pilpulistic commentary on precepts, positive and negative. In the introduction he praises his brother judah, known as Judah Kaẓin ("leader"), one of the heads of the Berlin community. Judah assisted him in covering the cost of the publication of the first part of the work. Isaac's approach is explained in the introduction. Isaac Wolfe Bernheim
American businessman (–)
Isaac Wolfe Bernheim (November 4, – April 1, ) was an American businessman notable for starting the I. W. Harper brand of premium bourbon whiskey (a historically important brand currently owned by Diageo).[1] The success of his distillery and distribution business helped to consolidate the Louisville area as a major center of Kentucky bourbon distilling. Bernheim was also a philanthropist, establishing the 14,acre (5,ha; 22sqmi) Bernheim Arboretum and Research Forest in Bullitt County.
Early years
[edit]Isaac Bernheim was born in Schmieheim, Grand Duchy of Baden, now part of Kippenheim in Germany and emigrated to the United States in with $4 in his pocket. He originally planned to work in New York City.[2] However, the company where he wanted to work went bankrupt, and he was forced to follow a different line of work. He became a traveling salesman or "peddler" traveling throughout Pennsylvania
