Ryo Ohwada takes symplistic shots of nature and landscapes then manitpulates them using Photoshop. In the manipulation process he uses mirroring and pattern techniques to create very abstract vibrant patterns which are hypnotising to look at. These images appeal to me because of the ambiguity, most of them are quite difficult to work out what was in the original image, it is this abstract aspect that makes even the most boring image interesting.

This is my example of an image manipulated in the style of Ohwada:

For me, carrying and photographing with the GR every day means repeating the above process.

In this sense, the accumulation of time is essential to photography. This reminds me of Daido Moriyama's saying, “

BEHIND THE MASK - One-hundred haiku by CHRIS MOSDELL (haiku) + RYO OHWADA (photography)

This exhibition commemorates the publication of the book “BEHIND THE MASK &#; One-hundred Haiku” by Chris Mosdell and Ryo Ohwada.

In their collaborative work, British poet Chris Mosdell and Japanese photographer Ryo Ohwada explore the ‘omote’ (the public face) and the ‘ura’ (the private face) of Japan in haiku and photography.

In image and word, the series expresses lyrical sentiments about the natural and urban beauty of Japan, filtered through the experiences and sensibilities of two exceptional artists.

This exhibition at DELTA features works selected by the artists and constitutes the first public presentation of the series.
